As the previous owner of house has got no power over the property he sold,it is the hand of the buyer. So same applies to the soul which is in the will will of God,the world has got no power over it, because of the another one owns you.
It gives solid proof that indeed before God starts using the person,first He has change the ownership by renewing the heart of a person as explained in the book of EZEKIEL, which says " I will take the heart of stone and put the heart of flesh and put new spirit. God know person better than us ,he has to get rid of former behaviour and invest new behaviour which can please God.
